THE BOOK OF HEBREWS CHAPTER 1 

I. THE REVELATION OF GOD: VS 1-3 

A. These were the ways of His revelation. vs 1-2  1. This was the manner in which we received the revelation of the Old Testament scriptures.  a). Those scriptures were inspired of God. v 1, Matt. 4:4  b). Those scriptures were spoken unto the father by the inspired prophets. v 1, 1 Peter 1:20-21  2. This was the manner in which we received the revelation of the New Testament scriptures.  a). These scriptures are inspired of God. 2 Tim. 3:16-17  b). These scriptures were spoken unto the people by Jesus: The Incarnated Word. v 2, Matt. 17:1-5, John 6:66-69  B. These were the purposes of His revelation. v 2-3  1. The scriptures reveal the authority of Jesus. v 2, Matt. 28:18-20  2. The scriptures manifest the Deity of Jesus. v 3, John 20:30-31  3. The scriptures reveal the powers of Jesus. v 3, Romans 8:37  4. The scriptures show the redemptive work of Jesus. v 3, 1 Tim. 1:15  5. The scriptures explain the immortality of man. 2 Tim. 1:10 II. THE MINISTRY OF JESUS (THE INCARNATED WORD): VS 4-7  A. This was the superiority of His ministry. v 4 (The ministry of Christ was greater than the ministry of angels.) Gal. 3:19  B. This was the authority of His ministry. v 4 (The authority of Christ is absolute.) Phil. 2:9-11  C. This was the exaltation of His ministry. v 5  1. Jesus (who was the Word in heaven) became the only begotten Son of God by His Own Incarnation in the flesh. John 1:1-3, 14  2. The angels served Jesus in His ministry. v 7, Matt. 3:11 III. THE KINGDOM OF CHRIST: VS 8-14  A. These are the characteristics of His Kingdom. v 8  1. The Kingdom of Christ began on the day of Pentecost. Acts 2:1-47, Heb. 12:28-29  2. The Kingdom of Christ is Eternal. 1 Cor. 15:24-28  B. This is the sceptre of His Kingdom. v 8 (The rule of the Kingdom of Christ is righteousness.) Matt. 6:33, Romans 14:17  C. This is the reason for His Kingdom. v 9 (Jesus defeated the powers of Satan in the flesh.) 1 John 3:8  D. This is the Ruler of His Kingdom. vs 10-12 (Christ the Lord is the Ruler of His Kingdom.) I. THE GREAT SALVATION: VS 1-4 

A. These are the admonitions for that salvation. v 1  1. Each person should obey the word of God. Matt. 7:24-25  2. No person should reject the word of God. Matt. 7:26-28  B. These are the reasons for that salvation. vs 2-3  1. God has punished the evil-doers. v 3, 2 Peter 2:4-7  2. God will punish the evil-doers. v 3, 2 Cor. 5:10  C. These are the assurances of that salvation. vs 3-4  1. The assurance of salvation was given unto us by the Lord. v 3, John 12:48  2. The assurance of salvation was confirmed unto us by the apostles. v 3, Eph. 2:19-22  3. The assurance of salvation was affirmed unto us by the power of God. v 4  a). Miracles were performed to confirm the word of God for the unbelievers. John 20:29-30  b). The gifts of the Holy Spirit were given to the believers to confirm the word of God among themselves. 1 Cor. 12:4-11 II. THE GREATNESS OF MAN: VS 5-9  A. This is the exaltation of man. v 5  1. Angels will not subject the spiritual world. Heb. 1:14  2. Redeemed man will subject the spiritual world. John 14:1-3  B. These are the needs of man. v 6  1. Man needs His Creator. v 6, Gen. 1:26-27, 1 John 5:7  2. Man needs His Redeemer. v 6, Acts 2:34-38, Matt. 28:18-20  C. This is the nature of man. v 7  1. Created man is the offspring of God. Gen. 2:7, Acts 17:29  2. Christians will become greater than the angles because in that world which is to come they will possess the Spiritual Blessings of Immortality. Christ has redeemed the Christians from their sins. Col. 1:13-14 III. THE SALVATION OF MAN: VS 10-13  A. These are the causes of our salvation. v 10  1. Christians have been redeemed by their Creator. John 1:1-3,14  2. Christ the Lord is the captain of our salvation. Acts 2:24-36  B. These are the reasons for our salvation. v 11  1. Man possesses the Divine Nature of the Lord his God by the creation of his life. v 11, John 10:34-35  a). When our Lord was upon the earth, He possess a created physical body, and an uncreated Soul and Spirit. Heb. 10:5, Matt 26:38, Mark 8:12  b). In this life, we possess a created physical body, and an Eternal Soul and Spirit 1 Thess. 5:23  2. Man will possess the Spiritual Nature of God by the resurrection of his life from the grave. 1 Cor. 15:50-57  a). Our Lord in heaven possesses a Spiritual Body, and an Eternal Soul and Spirit. 2 Tim. 1:10, Acts 2:31, Phil. 3:31  b). In heaven, we will possess a Spiritual Body, and an Eternal soul and Spirit. 1 Cor. 15:49  3. The Lord and man are brethren. v 11  a). The Lord and man are one in nature. John 17:21-23  b). Man can become a partaker of the Divine Nature of God. 2 Peter 1:4  C. These are the characteristics of our salvation. v 12  1. The Lord has declared his will unto us. v 12, 2 Tim. 3:16-17  2. The Lord does worship with us. v 12; Matt. 18:20, Matt. 26:26-29  D. These are the assurances of our salvation. v 13  1. Jesus conquered the powers of Satan for us. v 13, l John 3:8  2. There is a new creation in Christ. v 13, 2 Cor. 5:17, Matt. 28:18-20 IV. THE INCARNATION OF JESUS: VS 14-18  A. This was the manner of His Incarnation. v 14  1. Jesus in being the Word in heaven could not be Incarnated in His Spiritual Body. Exod. 33:17-23  2. Jesus in being the Word was incarnated in his created physical body. Heb. 10:5  B. These were the reasons for His Incarnation. v 14  1. Jesus had to have a physical body so that He could die for our sins on the cross. Heb. 10:10, Matt. 27:50  2. Jesus had to have a physical body so that He could defeat the Devil. Luke 4:5-7  C. These were the purposes of His Incarnation. v 15  1. Jesus wanted to deliver us from spiritual death. Romans 6:23  2. Jesus desired to deliver us from the enslavement of sin. Romans 7:24  D. These were the characteristics of His Incarnation. v 16  1. Jesus did not take upon Himself the nature of an angle because He did not come to redeem the fallen angels. 2 Peter 2:4  2. I. THE GREATNESS OF JESUS (THE INCARNATED WORD): VS 1-6 

A. These were the causes of His greatness. v 1  1. Jesus is our Apostle: one sent from God. John 13:20, 20:21  2. Jesus is our High Priest. Heb. 2:17  3. Jesus is our Prophet. Heb. 1:1-3  B. These were the reasons for His greatness. vs 2-5  1. Jesus did the Divine Work of human redemption; whereas, Moses had only done the preparatory work for redemption. v 2, John 6:38-40, John 17:4, John 1:17, Col. 2:14  2. Jesus built the New Testament church; whereas, Moses had built the tabernacle. vs 3-5 Matt. 16:13-18, Heb. 8:5  C. These were the evidences of His greatness. v 6  1. Jesus became the Son of God by the process of His Own Incarnation in the flesh because He was Word before His earthly Birth upon the earth. Matt. 1:21, John 1:14, John 3:16, Phil. 2:5-7  2. Jesus was officially given the title name of Christ the Lord by His resurrection from the dead. Acts 2:36 II. THE VALUE OF OUR OWN PROMPT OBEDIENCE: 7-11  A. This is the authority for our own obedience. v 7  1. The Holy Spirit says obey today.  2. The Holy Spirit is our Lawgiver. 2 Tim. 3:16-17  3. The Holy Spirit is called God. Acts 5:3-4  B. This is the time for our own obedience. v 7  1. The Lord never says to obey my precepts tomorrow. 2 Cor. 6:2  2. The Lord says obey my laws today. James 4:14  C. These are the reasons for our own obedience. vs 8-9  1. A Christian can become hard-hearted. v 8, Romans 2:5  2. A saint can become embittered against the Lord his God. v 8, Exod 17:1- 5  3. A disciple can tempt the Lord his God. Matt. 4:7  D. These are the ways of our own obedience. v 10  1. A Christian must not obey religious error. v 10, Matt. 15:8-9  2. A disciple must obey the truth of God. v 10, Matt. 7:21-23  E. These are the motivations for our own obedience. v 11  1. Israel could not enter into the promise land because of unbelief.  2. Christians can enter into heaven with the proper belief. John 14:1-3 III. AN EVIL HEART OF UNBELIEF: VS 12-19  A. These are the effects of unbelief. vs 12-13  1. Unbelief causes a person to depart from the living God. v 12, Isa. 59:1-2  2. Unbelief allows a person to be deceived by sin. v 13, Heb. 11:24-26  C. These are the cures for unbelief. vs 14-15  1. Confidence in the Lord cures unbelief. v 14, Phil. 4:13  2. Prompt obedience heals unbelief. v 15, Acts 24:25  D. These are the causes of unbelief. vs 16-17  1. Unbelief is promoted by the lack of trust in the Lord because Israel had heard, but Israel refused to believe. v 16, Prov. 3:5-6  2. Unbelief is enhanced by disobedience because Israel knew the laws of God, but Israel refused to obey the law of God. Romans 6:16-18  E. These are the results of unbelief. vs 18-19  1. Israel was punished for her unbelief. vs 18-19, Psa. 95:7-11  2. Each person will be punished for his own unbelief. Rev. 21:8 CHAPTER 4 

I. THE REST FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD: VS 1-10 

A. This is a promised rest. v 1, 2 Peter 3:9  B. The gospel is the cause of that rest. v 2, Romans 1:16  1. If the gospel is believed, it will bring rest.  2. It the gospel is disbelieved, it will bring unrest.  C. This is the nature of that rest. v 3  1. That rest means rest from the slavery of sin. Matt. 11:28-30  2. That rest implies rest from the guilt of sin. Romans 6:23  3. That rest signifies an ultimate rest in heaven. Rev. 14:13  D. These are the reasons for that rest. vs 4-9  1. The Lord created a perfect world and rested form His labors. v 4, Gen. 2:2  2. The Lord came to earth and established the gospel system because man had fallen from God's grace. vs 4-9  a). The observance of the Sabbath day (Saturday) was in memory of the sinless world which God had created. vs 4-7, Gen. 1:32, Gen. 2:2  b). The observance of the Lord's day (the First day of the week: Sunday) is in memory of the redemptive work which our Lord did in establishing the gospel system. vs 8-9 1). Our Lord arose from the dead upon the First Day of the week: Sunday. Luke 24:1-3 2). The New Testament church was established upon the First Day of the week: Sunday. Acts 2:1-47 3). The early Christians worshipped God upon the First Day of the week: Sunday. Acts 20:7  E. These are the effects of that rest. v 10  1. In this life, there is rest from the enslavement of sin. Romans 6:16-18  2. In heaven, there will be eternal rest from the enticement of sin because the powers of sin will be destroyed for the Christians. 1 Cor. 15:50-57 II. WORKING FOR THE LORD: VS 11-13  A. These are the summons to His work. v 11  1. Christians should work for the Lord. John 9:4  2. Disciples must labor for the Lord. 1 Cor. 15:58  B. These are the reasons for His work. v 11  1. In this life, there is rest from the enslavement of sin. Matt. 11:28-30  2. In that world which is to come, there will be that eternal rest from the consequences of sin. Rev. 14:13  C. These are the hindrances of His work. v 11  1. A Christian must believe in the Lord. Heb. 3:12  2. A disciple needs to believe in the promises of God. 2 Peter 1:4  D. These are the instruments for His work. v 12  1. The word of God can convert our souls. Psa. 19:7  2. The word of God can move us in the proper direction. Jer. 23:29  3. The word of God can sustain us. Acts 20:32  E. These are the motivations for His work. v 13  1. The Lord knows our works. Rev. 3:8  2. Each person must give an account of his own works. 2 Cor. 5:10 III. THE STEADFASTNESS OF A CHRISTIAN: VS 14-16  A. These are the admonitions for our being steadfast. v 14  1. A Christian should not grow wear with his profession. Gal. 6:6-9  2. A saint needs to walk worthy of his profession. Eph. 4:1-3  3. A disciple ought to endure his profession unto the end. Rev. 2:10  B. These are the reasons for our being steadfast. v 15  1. Our Lord will help us when we are tempted. Heb. 2:18  2. Our Lord will sustain us when we are tempted. 1 Cor. 10:13  3. Our Lord will deliver us when we are tempted. 2 Peter 2:9  C. These are the ways by which we can achieve our own steadfastness. v 16  1. Our steadfastness is achieved by knowing the power of prayer. Phil. 4:6  2. Our steadfastness is obtained by believing in the power of prayer. 1 Peter 5:7  3. Our steadfastness is secured by trusting in the power of prayer. James 5:16  D. These are the effects of our own steadfastness. v 16  1. A disciple can obtain mercy for his failures. Psa. 51:1-3  2. A Christian can obtain grace to sustain his needs. 2 Cor. 12:9-10 CHAPTER 5 

I. THE OFFICE OF AN HIGH PRIEST: VS 1-4 

A. These were the characteristics of the high Priest. v 1  1. The high Priest was taken from men.  2. The high Priest was ordain for men.  B. These were the purposes of the high Priest. v 1  1. The high Priest was to offer gifts for sins.  2. The high Priest was to offer sacrifices for sins.  C. These were the dispositions of the high Priest. v 2  1. The high Priest had human compassion.  2. The high Priest possessed human weaknesses.  D. These were the reasons for the high Priest. v 3  1. The high Priest should make sin offerings for the people.  2. The high Priest should make a sin offering for himself. v 3  E. These were the causes of an high Priest. v 4  1. The high Priest could not usurp this honor for himself.  2. The high Priest had to be ordained of God for this honor. II. THE PRIESTHOOD OF JESUS: VS 5-10  A. These were the causes of His Priesthood. v 5  1. Jesus did not usurp this authority for Himself. Psa. 2:7  2. Jesus, who was the Word in heaven, was made to be the Son of God by His Own Incarnation in the flesh so that He could receive this authority from God. Matt. 1:21, John 1:14, John 3:16  B. These were the characteristics of His Priesthood. v 6  1. The Priesthood of Christ would fulfill its purpose as did the priesthood of Melchisedec. Psa. 110:4  2. The Priesthood of Christ is fulfilling its purpose because Jesus is our high Priest. Heb. 4:14-16  C. These are the reasons for His Priesthood. vs 7-8  1. Jesus suffered in the flesh as a human being. v 7, Luke 22:39-46  2. Jesus learned to obey the laws of God as a human being. v 8, John 4:34  D. These are the blessings of His Priesthood. vs 9-10  1. Jesus is the Author of our eternal salvation. v 9, Heb. 12:1-2  2. Jesus is an high Priest with power, rank and authority which was ordained by God. v 10, Matt. 28:18-20 III. THE VALUE OF SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE: VS 11-14  A. These are the needs for our own spiritual knowledge. v 11  1. A Christian should not be spiritually immunized. v 11, Eph. 4:18  2. A disciple must be spiritually enlightened. v 11, Eph. 5:14-16  B. These are the reasons for our own spiritual knowledge. v 12  1. A Christian should be teacher of the word of God. Acts 11:26  2. A disciple is rebuked for not being a teacher of the word of God. 1 Cor. 12:28  C. These are the essentials for our own spiritual knowledge. vs 13-14  1. A Christian can not feed upon the milk of the word. v 13, 1 Peter 2:1-3  2. A disciple must be feed the meat of the word. v 14, Psa. 119:103  D. These are the effects of our own spiritual knowledge. v 14  1. Spiritual knowledge will engender spiritual growth. 2 Peter 3:18  2. Spiritual knowledge will bring spiritual maturity. I. OUR OWN SPIRITUAL GROWTH: VS 1-3 

A. These are the reasons for our own spiritual growth. v 1  1. A Christian must advance beyond the elementary stages in the teachings of Christ. 1 Peter 1:1-3  2. A disciple must grow toward perfection which would be spiritual maturity. 1 Peter 5:10  B. These are the essentials for our own spiritual growth. vs 1-2  1. Christians must know more about Christianity than its first principles. v 1  a). This would be the teachings of faith. Heb. 11:6  b). This would be the teachings of repentance. Luke 13:3  c). This would be the need of confession. Matt. 10:32-33  d). This would be the instructions for baptism. Mark 16:16  2. Christians must learn more about Christianity than its doctrines of baptisms. v 2  a). There was the baptism of John, the Baptist. Mark 1:2, Acts 19:1-7  b). There was the baptism of the Holy Spirit for the apostles. Acts 1:5, Acts 2:1-4  c). There was the baptism of the great commission which is for us. Matt. 28:18-20 1). The element of this baptism is water. Acts 8:36 2). The mode of this baptism is an immersion. Col. 2:12 3). The purpose of this baptism is for the remission of sins. Acts 2:38  d). There is the baptism for the wicked. Matt. 3:11, Rev. 21:8  3. Christians must know more about Christianity than the laying on of hands by the apostles. v 2, Acts 8:14-17  4. Christians should learn more about Christianity than the resurrection of the dead. v 2, John 5:28-29  5. Christians need to understand more about Christianity than the judgement of the wicked world. v 2, Acts 17:30-31  C. These are the motivations for our own spiritual growth. v 3  1. The Lord is willing for us to grow in spirituality. Luke 18:8  2. Christians should be willing to grow in spirituality. Eph. 4:13-14 II. THE GREAT APOSTASY: VS 4-8  A. These were the concerns for that apostasy. vs 4-5  1. The apostates have been enlightened. v 4, 1 Peter 2:9  2. The apostates were partakers of the heavenly gift. v 4, Acts 2:47  3. The apostates were partakers of the Holy Spirit. v 4, Acts 2:38  4. The apostates have lived by the word of God. v 5, Matt. 4:4, Psa. 119:103  5. The apostates have experienced the powers of God. v 5, 1 Peter 3:10-14  B. These are the reasons for that apostasy. v 6  1. Apostasy is not a forced act. Rev. 2:10  2. Apostasy is a voluntary act. Luke 9:62  C. These are the effects of that apostasy. v 7  1. That apostasy will cause those apostates to re-crucify the Son of God. 2 Peter 2:20-21  2. That apostasy will make those apostates to mock the Son of God. Jude 12-13  D. These are the results of that apostasy. v 8  1. The apostates were once blessed by God. v 8, Phil. 2:13  2. The apostates are now cursed by God. v 8, Luke 13:27 III. REMAINING FAITHFUL: VS 9-12  A. These are the motivation for our faithfulness. v 9  1. Disciples have been given a challenge. v 9, 2 Peter 20-22  2. Christians have been given the promises that accompany salvation. v 9, 2 Peter 1:3-4  B. These are the reasons for our faithfulness. v 10  1. The Lord does not forget our work of faith. James 2:14-17  2. The Lord does not forget our labor of love. Matt. 25:40  C. These are the essentials for our faithfulness. v 11  1. Christians must be diligent. v 11, 2 Peter 1:5-11  2. Saints must hope until the end. v 11, Rev. 2:10, Rom. 4:18, Phil. 2:27  D. These are the achievements of our faithfulness. v 12  1. Faithfulness is achieved by a trusting faith. v 12, 1 John 5:4  2. Faithfulness is obtained by patience. v 12, James 1:12, James 5:11 IV. THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD: VS 13-20  A. These are the reasons for His faithfulness. vs 13-14  1. God swore by Himself to be faithful. Gen. 22:16-17  2. God is faithful with us. 1 Cor. 10:13  B. These are the proofs of His faithfulness. v 15  1. God kept His promises to Abraham. Gen. 21:1-3  2. God will kept His promises to us. 2 Peter 1:4  C. These are the assurances of His faithfulness. vs 16-18  1. The Lord has confirmed His promise of salvation unto us with an oath. vs 16-17, 2 Tim. 2:11  2. The Lord will never break His promises. v 18, 2 Peter 3:9  D. These are the effects of His faithfulness. vs 19-20  1. Faithfulness gives us hope of eternal life. v 19, Col. 1:5  2. Faithfulness gives us spiritual security. v 20, Heb. 2:17-18 CHAPTER 7 

I. THE PRIESTHOOD OF MELCHISEDEC: VS 1-3 

A. This was the usefulness of his Priesthood. v 1 ("Melchisedec blessed Abraham") Gen. 14:18  B. These were the blessings of his Priesthood. v 2  1. Abraham respected his Priesthood.  2. Abraham gave Melchisedec a tenth part of the spoils from a war.  C. These were the causes for his Priesthood. v 2  1. Melchisedec was a king of righteousness.  2. Melchisedec was the king of Salem.  3. Melchisedec was a king of peace.  D. These were the characteristics of his Priesthood. v 3  1. The Priesthood of Melchisedec did not come from a parental lineage. (He was "Without father, and without mother", i. E. His father and mother were not priests before him.)  2. The Priesthood of Melchisedec was not of ancestral lineage. (He was "Without descent", i. E. No person could succeed him as being a high priest.)  3. The Priesthood of Melchisedec was not limited by years of service. ("Having neither beginning of days, nor end of life.")  a). Melchisedec didn't have to be a certain age before he was made to be a priest.  b). Melchisedec didn't have to retire at a certain age from his Priesthood.  4. The Priesthood of Melchisedec resembled the Priesthood of Jesus. ("Made like unto the Son of God.")  5. The Priesthood of Melchisedec has an everlasting title. ("Abideth a priest continually".)  a). The services of Melchisedec as a priest did end at his death.  b). The influence of Melchisedec as a priest continues to be productive. ("Melchisedec being dead yet speaketh" by his examples.) Heb. 11:4 II. THE PRIESTHOOD OF MELCHISEDEC CONTINUED: VS 4-10  A. This was the greatness of his Priesthood. vs 4-5 (Abraham respected the Priesthood of Melchisedec.)  B. This was the ministration of his Priesthood. vs 6-7 (Abraham was blessed by the Priesthood of Melchisedec.)  C. This was the preeminence of his Priesthood. vs 8-10  1. The Priesthood of Melchisedec was greater than the Levitical priesthood. 2. The Levitical priesthood which was in the lions of Abraham when he paid tithes to the Priesthood of Melchisedec. III. THE LEVITICAL PRIESTHOOD: VS 11-14  A. This was the nature of that Priesthood. v 11 (The Levitical Priesthood could not bring perfection.)  B. This was the cause of that Priesthood. v 11 (The law of Moses gave the Levitical Priesthood its authority.)  D. These were the inferiorities of that Priesthood. v 11  1. The Levitical Priesthood was inferior to the Priesthood of Melchisedec.  2. The Levitical Priesthood was inferior to the Priesthood of Christ.  D. This was the fulfillment of that Priesthood. vs 12-14  1. The Levitical Priesthood ended with the law of Moses. v 12, Col. 2:14  2. The Levitical Priesthood has fulfilled its purpose. vs 13-14 (Christ was born of the tribe of Judah, not the tribe of Levi.) IV. THE ORIGIN OF THE PRIESTHOOD OF JESUS CHRIST: VS 15-19  A. These were the characteristics of His Priesthood. vs 15-17  1. The Priesthood of Christ was after the order of Melchisedec. Psa. 110:4  2. The Priesthood of Christ was not from parental lineage because Jesus was born of the tribe of Judah, not the tribe of Levi.  3. The Priesthood of Christ was not of ancestral lineage because no person can take His place as being our High Priest.  4. The Priesthood of Christ was not limited by years of services.  a). Jesus is now serving as our High Priest. Heb. 2:17-18  b). Jesus will serve as our High Priest unto the end of the world. 1 Cor. 15:24-28  5. The Priesthood of Christ will have an everlasting title.  a). The services of Jesus as High Priest will end when the powers of sin is eternally punished. Rev. 1:18  b). The tile of Jesus as our High Priest will signify what He did for humanity. 1 Tim. 1:15  B. These are the reasons for His Priesthood. vs 18-19  1. The Priesthood of Christ superseded the Levitical Priesthood. v 18, Col. 2:14  2. The Priesthood of Christ gives us a better hope for eternal salvation. v 19, 1 Peter 1:3-5  C. This is the effect of His Priesthood. v 19  1. The Priesthood of Christ causes us to draw closer to God. Heb. 10:20-22  2. Christians should draw closer to God. James 4:7-8 V. THE SERVICES OF THE PRIESTHOOD OF CHRIST: VS 26-28 A. These are the causes of His Priesthood. vs 20-21  1. The Priesthood of Christ was given to Him by an oath because it was promised to Him before His Divine Incarnation in the flesh. v 20, John 1:1-3,14 2. The Levitical Priesthood made priests without an oath because it was promised to them before they were born. v 21  B. These are the purposes of His Priesthood. v 22  1. The Priesthood of Christ is for a better covenant. Heb. 8:6  2. The Levitical Priesthood could not bring a better covenant. Heb. 7:12  C. This is the nature of His Priesthood. vs 23-24  1. There were many high Priests under the Levitical Priesthood because of death. v 23  2. Jesus has an unchangeable Priesthood because He is living and reigning as our High Priest. v 24, Rev. 21:18  D. This is the effect of His Priesthood. v 25  1. Christ is able to save us from our sins. 1 Cor. 15:1-3  2. The Levitical Priesthood could not save us from our sins. Col. 2:14 VI. THE PRIESTHOOD OF JESUS CHRIST CONTINUED: VS 26-28  A. These are the characteristics of His Priesthood. v 26  1. Christ is holy. 1 Peter 1:15-16  2. Christ is harmless. 1 Peter 1:23  3. Christ is undefiled. Luke 19:10  4. Christ is separated from sinners. 1 Peter 1:22  5. Christ is exalted. Rev. 1:18  B. These are the needs for His Priesthood. v 27  1. Christ is our sin-offering. John 1:29  2. Christ can save all sinners. 1 Tim. 1:15  C. These are causes of His Priesthood. v 28  1. Christ was perfect. Heb. 2:10  2. Christ was given this office by an oath. Heb. 7:17
