Genesis Chapter 13 

I. The separation between Abraham and Lot. Verses 1-9

I. The blessings of Abraham. Verses 1-6 

A. This was the source of his blessings. Verse 1  1. The Lord was the source of Abraham's blessings. Verse 1  2. The Lord is the source of our blessings. James 1:17  B. This was the request of his blessings. Verses 2-4  1. Abraham wanted a son. Verses 2-4  2. We can ask for that which we wish. Matt. 7:7  C. This was the effects of his blessings. Verses 5-6  1. I. A sinful marriage. Verses 1-6 

A. This was the reason for that marriage. Verses 1-2  1. It seemed like the proper thing to do. Verses 1-2  2. A second marriage may seem like the proper thing to do. 1 Cor. 7:12-15  B. This was the nature of that marriage. Verse 3  1. The Lord did not authorize that marriage. Verse 3  2. The Lord doesn't always authorize the second marriage. Matt. 19:3-9  C. This was the effects of that marriage. Verses 4-6  1. Hagar despised Sarah. Verse 4  2. Sarah blamed Abraham. Verse 5  3. Abraham blamed Hagar. Verse 6 II. Hagar is rebuked. Verses 7-16  A. This was the nature of her rebuke. Verses 7-8  1. The angel of the Lord gave her a stern rebuke. Verses 7-8  2. We can receive a stern rebuke form the Lord. Matt. 25:24-30  B. This was the essentials of her rebuke. Verse 9  1. Hagar was told to return to her mistress. Verse 9  2. We are told to return unto the Lord. Isa. 55:6  C. This was the effects of her rebuke. Verses 10-16  1. Hagar would be blessed. Verse 10, John 15:5  2. Hagar would find favor from the Lord. Verses 11-14  3. Hagar did obey the law of God. Verses 15-16, Heb. 5:8-9 Chapter 17 

I. The covenant of Abraham. Verses 1-27 

A. This was the purpose of that covenant. Verses 1-8  1. Abraham would become the father of a great nation. Verses 1-8  2. Abraham is the father of all Christians. Gal. 3:27-29  B. This was the essentials of that covenant. Verses 9-14  1. Each male child had to be circumcised. Verses 9-14  2. Each person must be baptized into Christ. Romans 6:3-6  C. This was the method of that covenant. Verses 15-22  1. The promised seed would come from Sarah. Verses 15-22  2. We are the children of Sarah. Gal. 4:21-31  D. This was the effect of that covenant. Verses 23-27  1. Abraham obeyed the laws of God. Verses 23-27  2. We must obey the laws of Christ. Heb. 5:8-9 Chapter 18 

I. The heavenly quest of Abraham. Verses 1-8 

A. These were the reasons for his heavenly quest. Verses 1-2  1. The Lord appeared unto Abraham. Verse 1, Rev. 3:20  2. Abraham realized that he needed the Lord. Verse 2, Phil. 2:5-11  B. These were the blessings of his heavenly quest. Verses 3-5  1. The Lord brought the best out of Abraham. Verses 3-5  2. The Lord can bring the best out of us. 2 Cor. 9:6-7, Romans 12:1-2  C. This was the results of his heavenly guest. Verses 6-8  1. It brought happiness to Abraham. Verses 6-8, Acts 8:39  2. The Lord became the guest of Abraham. Verses 8, John 14:23 II. The unbelief of Sarah. Verses 9-15  A. This was the manner of her unbelief. Verses 9-12  1. Sarah became a doubter. Verses 9-12  2. We can become a doubter and a scoffer. James 1:5-8, 2 Peter 3:3-4  B. This was the rebuke for her unbelief. Verse 13  1. The Lord rebuked Sarah for her unbelief. Verse 13  2. The Lord rebukes us for our unbelief. Matt. 6:30  C. This was the cure for her unbelief. Verse 14  1. The Lord cured her unbelief. Verse 14  2. The Lord can cure our unbelief. Romans 8:37, 1 Cor. 10:13  D. This was the effect of her unbelief. Verse 15  1. Sarah was ashamed of her unbelief. Verse 15  2. We should become ashamed of our unbelief. John 20:26-29 III. The revelation of God. Verses 16-22  A. This was the need for that revelation. Verses 16-17  1. The Lord intented to destroy Sodom, and Gomorrah. Verses 16-17  2. The Lord intents to destroy this world. 2 Peter 3:10  a). The gospel of Christ needs to be preached. Romans 1:16  b). Christians can preserve the earth. Matt. 5:13-16  B. This was the reasons for that revelation. Verses 18-19  1. Abraham was a God-fearing man. Verses 18-19  2. We should be God-fearing people. Matt. 11:11  a). We are to teach our children the truth. Deut. 6:7  b). We are to train our children in the righteousness. Prov. 22:6  c). We are to provide for our children. 2 Cor. 12:14  d). We are to control our children. 1 Tim. 3:12  e). We are to love our children. Titus. 2:4  C. This was the effects of that revelation. Verses 20-22  1. Abraham was willing to stand for the truth. Verses 20-22  2. We should be willing to stand for the truth. Eph. 6:10-13 IV. Abraham prays for Sodom and Gomorrah. Verses 23-33  A. This was the manner of his prayers. Verse 23  1. Abraham drew near unto the Lord. Verse 23  2. We should draw near unto the Lord in prayer. Heb. 4:15-16  B. This was the nature of his prayer. Verses 24-25  1. Abraham reasoned with God. Verses 24-25  2. We can reasoned with God in prayer. Phil. 4:6, 1 Peter 5:7  C. This was the motivation for his prayer. Verses 26-27  1. Abraham saw that the Lord would answer his prayer. Verses 26-27  2. We should know that the Lord will answer our prayers. Matt. 7:7  D. This was the effects of his prayer. Verses 28-32  1. The Lord gave Abraham the request of his prayer. Verses 28-32  2. The Lord will give us the request of our prayers. John 15:7  E. This was the lesson from his prayers. Verse 33  1. Abraham should have keep praying. Verse 33  2. We should keep praying. James 5:16 Chapter 19 

I. The wickedness of Sodom. Verses 1-11 

A. This was the reason for their wickedness. Verses 1-5  1. They become guilty of sodomy. Verses 1-5  2. Sodom is a vile sin. Romans 1:24-27  B. This was the nature of their wickedness. Verses 6-9  1. They refused to reason of righteousness. Verses 6-8, Psa. 10:4-11  2. They became violent. Verse 9, Romans 3:11-18  C. This was the effects of their wickedness. Verses 10-11  1. They became blind. Verses 10-11  2. This is true of any sinner. John 3:18-21 II. The overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah. Verses 12-28  A. This was the reasons for their overthrow. Verses 12-14  1. They were wicked people. Verses 12-13, Ezek. 33:11  2. They were mockers. Verses 14, Gal. 6:6-9  B. This was the instructions for their overthrow. Verses 12-21  1. Lot was told to save his life. Verses 15-21  2. We are told to save our life. Acts 2:40  C. This was the manner of their overthrow. Verses 22-25  1. The Lord rained fire and brimstone upon those wicked cities. Verses 22- 25  2. The wicked will be punished with fire and brimstone. Rev. 14:10-11  D. This was the effects of their overthrow. Verses 26-28  1. The wife of Lot looked back. Verses 26, Luke 17:32  2. I. The sin of Abimelech. Verses 1-7 

A. This was the nature of his sin. Verses 1-2  1. Abimelech was willing to have an unlawful marriage. Verses 1-2  2. This was a common sin of our generation. Matt. 19:3-9, Luke 16:18  B. This was the warning for his sin. Verse 3  1. If you commit this sin Abimelech, you will die. Verse 3  2. All sinners must die. Romans 6:23  C. This was the justification for his sin. Verses 4-5  1. Abimelech tried to justify himself by ignorance. Verses 4-5  2. We can justify our sins for any reason. Acts 17:30-31  D. This was the effects of his sin. Verse 6  1. A. This was the conditions of his marriage. Verses 1-9  1. Abraham wanted Isaac to have a wife from his kindred. Verses 1-4  2. Abraham didn't want Isaac to leave the land of Canaan for a wife. Verses 5-9  B. This was the preparation for his marriage. Verses 10-21  1. The servant of Abraham went to the kindred of Abraham to find Isaac a wife. Verses 10-11  2. The servant of Abraham prayed for the providence of God in this matter. Verses 12-14  3. The Lord answered his prayer. Verses 15-21  C. This was the assurance of his marriage. Verses 22-61  1. The servant of Abraham was convinced that Rebekah should be the wife of Isaac. Verses 22-32  2. The family of Rebekah was convinced that Rebekah should be the wife of Isaac. Verses 34-49  3. The family of Rebekah was convinced that Rebekah should be the wife of Isaac. Verses 34-39  D. This was the reality of his marriage. Verses 62-67
