It dominates the Christian's life. It is woven into our lives: past, present, and future BODY I. THE GOSPEL'S PAST - THE GRACE OF GOD "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men," (Titus 2:11) A. It is God's grace that brings salvation. 1. Ephesians 2:8-9 2. 2 Corinthians 8:9 - "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich." 3. Ephesians 1:7 "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace" 4. 2 Timothy 1:9 "who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began," 5. Romans 2:4 - "Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?" B. God's grace has been provided as a gift toward all men. 1. 1 Timothy 2:4 - "who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." 2. God has provided His grace, given through the sacrifice of His Son, to every person who will accept it. 3. 2 Peter 3:9 - "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." I. IGOSPEL PRESENT - THINGS TO DENY AND WAYS TO LIVE "teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age" (Titus 2:12) A. We must deny ungodliness and worldly lusts 1. Ungodliness - impiety, i.e. (by impl.) wickedness:__ungodly (_liness). This implies the kind of attitude or seeking to live opposed to God and all His rules. a. Romans 1:18-32 2. Worldly lusts - Those desires for sinful things that not only are against God's truth, but also will bring harm and pain for us. a. Jude 1:18_19 "how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. 19_ These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit." b. Adam Clarke - "Such desires, affections, and appetites, as men are governed by who have their portion in this life, and live without God in the world. Gluttony, drunkenness, lasciviousness, anger, malice, and revenge; together with the immoderate love of riches, power, and fame." B. We are to live soberly, righteously, and godly 1. Soberly - Carries with it the sense of self-control. A serious attitude toward life. a. 1 Peter 1:13 - "Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;" 2. Righteously - Just opposite to living ungodly. a. Acts 24:25 - "Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self_control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, "Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you."" b. 1 Timothy 6:11 - "But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness." 3. Godly - The idea of godliness here is living one's life with God at the forefront of everything we do. Trying our best to live like God in every facet of our lives. a. 2 Peter 3:11 - "Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness," b. 1 Timothy 2:10 - "but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works." c. 1 Timothy 4:8 - "For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come." 4. In this present age - the present life we are living. II. GOSPEL FUTURE - LOOKING FOR THE COMING OF CHRIST. "looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:13) A. We are to look forward to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1. 2 Peter 3:11_12 "Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12_ looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?" B. It will be a future where we will go home to be with our Lord. 1. 1 Thessalonians 4:16_17 "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17_ Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord." C. This is our motivation for godly, righteous living - to be prepared for that blessed coming! 1. 1 John 2:28 - "And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming." 2. We do not want to be unprepared and ashamed! a. Matthew 22:11_14 ""But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. 12_ "So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. 13_ "Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' 14_ "For many are called, but few are chosen."" b. THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST, PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE
Titus 2:11-13

INTRODUCTION: The grace of God is a wonderful theme in the New Testament!  It dominates the Christian’s life.  It is woven into our lives: past, present, and future

BODY
I.      THE GOSPEL’S PAST - THE GRACE OF GOD
"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men," (Titus 2:11)

A.      It is God’s grace that brings salvation.
1.      Ephesians 2:8-9
2.      2 Corinthians 8:9 - "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich."

        A.      We must deny ungodliness and worldly lusts
                1.      Ungodliness - impiety, i.e. (by impl.) wickedness:__ungodly (_liness).  This implies the kind of attitude or seeking to live opposed to God and all His rules.
